Don’t give up…You may succeed with another blow

I have always been the go-to person for many of my friends, colleagues and mates during moments when they thought all hope was lost. During my interactions with them, I ever wondered how they felt in those moments of lingering pain, which always seemed to last for eternity with each breath of air. I asked how dark the clouds above them must be and how mighty the force which appears to draw down all their features. It didn’t take long for me to be in their shoes; to experience the unexplainable moments of sorrow as I glimpsed through a history to strong to be forgotten. In those hours, the only thing I could possibly do was nothing… productivity went completely astray for days and at that point, I realized that I was giving up. Despite all this, and standing at the verge of giving up, the poem below by Edgar Guest A. stroke me with an iota of hope.

When Things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and debts are high,

And you want to Smile but have to sigh.

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As everyone of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

When he might have won if he’d stuck it out,

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow,

You might succeed with another blow.

Often the struggler has given up,

When he might captured the victor’s cup.

And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,

How close he was to the golden crown,

Success is failure turned inside out,

The silver tint of clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems afar,

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit,

It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.

The principal message and title of the poem is DON’T QUIT. As Edgar explains, you will face many twists and turns in life and their frequency will only increase as you get closer to succeeding. Believe me, without the storm, your success “will not be sweet”. Though the challenges are there to refine you, you should keep in mind that they may come to guide or warn you too. Do evaluate every step, decision, and action you take to know where you are heading to; you wouldn’t want to go a long way in the wrong away. And as you evaluate yourself, not down the thoughts which brings about that cloud of weariness. If you cannot control what makes you to see the darkness in light, forget about it and let it go; If you can, develop a strategy and tackle it face on. “Sometimes, life will kick you around, but sooner or later, you realize you’re not just a survivor. You’re a warrior, and you’re stronger than anything life throws your way.” –Brooke Davis

Give it one last try, and that last try, might be the right one!! Wishing you an inspiring week ahead.
